我們看這一節時，常把這句「行公義，好憐憫，存謙卑的心，與你的神同行」看成金句，卻不理會本身想表達甚麼真正意思。其實，彌六6-8常被稱為「律法的宣告」（“torah oracle”）或「進入的禮儀」（“entrance liturgy”）。這是進入祭壇的要求，例如詩十五1-2（耶和華啊，誰能寄居你的帳幕？誰能住在你的聖山？就是行為正直、做事公義、心裡說實話的人。）。這句的處境是回應彌迦先知的的設問：「我朝見耶和華，在至高神面前跪拜，當獻上甚麼呢？」即是說，人要到神那裏敬拜他，究竟要甚麼呢？先知又用連串的反問提供答案：
